MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Mental Health Counseling is a distinct profession with national and state standards for education, training, and clinical practice. Mental Health Counselors provide a full range of services for individuals, couples and families, and groups. The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Marist College provides the academic preparation necessary to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY State.

The 60-credit Mental Health Counseling program encourages the personal and professional growth of its students, fostering self-awareness and a deeper understanding of others. The curriculum is rich in coursework stressing the theory and practice of counseling as well as assessment and research, and it underscores the importance of a multi-culturally competent approach. Counselors-in-training gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality mental health care to help their clients function effectively in all aspects of their lives.

"Being an alumnus of the MA in Mental Health Counseling program at Marist College has opened up many doors for me as I begin my career in the Mental Health field. I feel my positive experiences in the field since graduating are a direct result of the professors, staff and overall Mental Health Counseling program. I was initially drawn to the Mental Health Counseling program at Marist because it was one of the first programs approved by New York State. During the admissions process, I was introduced to a few professors and immediately felt that I was in the right place. In addition to the excellent and knowledgeable faculty, I was presented with an opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant. During my two years as a Graduate Assistant, I worked closely with faculty to become part of their research team, and was even given the opportunity to present our work at regional conferences. My experience in the Mental Health Counseling program continues to prove beneficial to my knowledge as a counselor and for my professional development. Choosing Marist College was one of the best decisions I've made in my career in the Mental Health field."
